Memorial Day is a federal holiday occurring on the last Monday of May each year. Formally known as Decoration Day, this day is set aside in order to honor, remember and commemorate men and women that have paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. For many, this day also signifies the unofficial start of summer, with businesses being closed, schools being off, and barbeques and outdoor activities generally being customary events for the day.
What does all of this have to do with NYC courier services? Not much, you might think. However, if you are looking for a meaningful way to show your thanks to those who have served our country and are still here with us today, and can’t find a way to do so in person, using a messenger service may be one way to not let the day go by unnoticed. Although it’s fun to enjoy the day off while getting excited for the upcoming summer, as Americans we shouldn’t lose sight of the significance of this day. Veterans and active service members deserve our thanks on this day (and every day) as we also remember those that have come before and are no longer here to thank.
One way to honor our service men and women that are still with us is to deliver small gifts, notes or items that might be enjoyed by wounded or aging veterans. Items can be delivered to a veteran’s hospital, veteran’s home or simply to an individual you know that may have served our country in some capacity. Although delivering the items yourself is the most meaningful way to do so, you can also have a professional messenger service deliver items on your behalf even if you can’t do so yourself. Some items that might be enjoyed include letters of thanks, books, movies or snacks. If you’re sending something to a hospital or home, it is best to first check with someone first to see what they may need or are willing to accept.
Using a messenger service isn’t the ideal way to express your thanks to active service members or veterans on this national holiday, but it is a better option than doing nothing at all to express your appreciation for the men and women that serve this country. Of course, Veterans Day, which is celebrated on November 11th of each year, is actually the holiday to show your appreciation for all veterans, and Memorial Day is set aside as a day to remember service members that lost their lives during active duty, but there’s no such thing as showing too much appreciation for our veterans and service members that are still with us today.
That’s why this Memorial Day, as you enjoy your barbecue, outdoor activities and the anticipation of the coming summer, take a few moments to remember those we’ve lost while also doing your part to show your appreciation for members of the military that have served our country and are still with us today.
